Verbascum
How to Propagate
and Grow Successfully

Verbascum originate from Europe, Asia and North Africa and are a genus of annual, biennial and perennial gardening plants with around 300 species.

Leaves are varied in shape, ovate, lance or elliptic. Some are hairy or covered in down.

Some leaves form in basal rosettes.

Flowers are mainly saucer shape, but some form densely on erect spikes or in long panicles while others form in dense clusters of small flowers.

Flower colours range from yellow, brown, pink to white.

Where to plant info

These are a popular gardening plant, and rightly so as they are so varied in shape, size and colour. They mix well with other gardening plants.

Where: Ideal for the back of borders and beds.

They create a good display if planted in groups of five or more of the same species.

Grow them in groups among other bed and border plants for a dramatic focal display.

They are ideal in wildflower and wildlife gardens.

Site: They prefer full sun, they thrive in it!

Soil: Any rich and free draining soil.
