Planting Times For Garden Vegetables

Knowing the right planting times for garden vegetables helps you plan ahead and get the very best out of your vegetable patch.

But before you can actually plant some vegetables you sometimes need to sow seeds and germinate them, so seed sowing times are included.

So perhaps this should be titled “Sowing and Planting Times for Garden Vegetables”.

You can buy many vegetables as young plants, cabbage, runner beans, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, leeks and many more, which you can simply plant in your vegetable garden and watch them grow away.

But you can save lots of money by sowing your own vegetable seeds instead of buying young plants.

There is more work but sowing seeds and seeing them germinate into fine young plants is so pleasurable and rewarding the extra work is more than worth the results. And don’t forget you can save money.

Always follow the instructions on your seed packets as this information should be accurate for your own area.

The sowing and planting times will vary even within the UK as different parts of the country are warmer or drier than others and the sowing and planting times for garden vegetables should be adjusted as needed.


If there is a mild spring or autumn, sowing or planting times for garden vegetables can be made earlier or later. So make use of any mild seasons.

Some indoor seed sowing can be started earlier than outdoor sowings, so check your seed packets which should have all this information.
