Herb Growing Kits

Herb growing kits are an easy and inexpensive way to start your indoor herb garden.
There are many different types of indoor herb growing kits, all of which do the same thing, grow herbs easily.
It's just a matter of choosing the ones you like best.
They come with all you need:
Pots
Compost
Seeds
Sometimes a stand for the pots
Easy to follow instructions
You will find them easy to use and once the seeds have germinated and the herbs are growing away all you have to do is keep them watered and harvest them as you need.
Now that's real easy!
With the herb kit shown above there are just six simple steps.
Step one: This kit comes with dried compressed compost tablets, (not all kits do, some will have a bag of normal compost).
But with this one you need to soak the compost tablets in water.
So the first step is to put some water in a container (the amount of water will be on the instructions that come with your kit).
Use tepid water so the seeds, when you sow them, will not be sitting in cold compost.
Skip this step if you have a bag of normal compost with your herb kit.
Step two: Just place the compost tablets in the tepid water and leave them to soak.
They will absorb all the water in the container, for this kit there is 200cl of water.
Skip this step if you have a bag of normal compost with your herb kit.
Step three: After about fifteen minutes or so the compost tablets will have absorbed all the water and it now looks and feels like normal compost.
If there is any excess water carefully drain it off by simply tipping the container and letting the excess water flow out.
Skip this step if you have a bag of normal compost with your herb kit.
Step four: Your herb growing kit will probably not tell you do this but this is a neat little trick that helps prevent the compost in the pots from becoming permanently water-logged, which is not good for your herbs.
Place a thin layer of medium grade horticultural grit in the bottom of each pot, don't overdue it about 5mm (1/4 inch) will do just fine.
Step four: It's now just a case of filling each pot with compost.
Don't fill the pots right to the top leave a space of about 15mm (1/2 inch) from the top.
And don't use all the compost, you will need some to cover the seeds after you have sown them.
Step five: Cut open a packet of seeds and empty some into the palm of your hand.
Now carefully and slowly move your hand over the compost of one of the pots, starting at one end and slowly move back and forth across the compost letting the seeds fall off your palm and onto the surface of the compost.
Sow them evenly over the whole surface of the compost, not too crowded, sow them thinly.
You don't have to use all the seeds, you usually get far more than you need, so save them for sowing in other pots later.
Write the herb name on a label and carefully place it in the pot.
Now do the same for the remaining pots, don't forget to label them as you go so you know which one is which.
The seeds that came with this kit are Chives, Parsely and Basil.
Step six: All that's left to do is to cover the seeds in each pot with a thin layer of compost.
That's it, job done!
Now how easy was that?
To get your seeds to germinate place them indoors somewhere warm and in light and keep the compost moist, not water-logged, just moist.
Your seeds will soon germinate and your herbs will grow on ready for you to harvest as needed.
