Galanthus
How to Propagate
and Grow Successfully


Galanthus, snowdrop, originate from Europe and Asia and are a genus of perennial autumn (fall), winter and spring flowering bulbous gardening plants.

Leaves are blue green and narrow sword like.

Flowers are solitary, white with pale green petal tips. Most are fragrant.

Galanthus are an extremely popular gardening plant well suited to woodland gardens.

Common Names: Spring snowdrop.

Classification: Bulb.

Height: 20cm (8inches).

Flowering: Autumn (fall), winter and spring depending on species and climate.


Where to plant info

Snowdrops will usually flower through winter and well into spring. For this reason it is one of the most popular winter and spring flowering gardening plants and most gardeners will have them planted throughout their gardens.

Autumn (fall) flowering species are also availabe, ideal for those autumn (fall) beds and borders.

Where: Grow snowdrops at the front of winter, spring and autumn (fall) flowering borders or beds.

Grow them in groups under trees and shrubs, the larger the group the greater the impact.

Grown in patio tubs and pots snowdrop make an interesting seasonal display.

Site: Snowdrop prefer partial shade.

Soil: Any rich, moist but free draining soil.


Propagation info By division of clumps of bulbs when flowers have finished and before leaves start to wilt.
