How to Propagate
and Grow Successfully


Festuca originate from Europe and Asia and are a genus of tuft forming evergreen grass perennials.

Leaves are blue green, yellow green or silvery and are narrow and linear.

Flowers are insignificant and are borne in dense clusters.

Festuca are a tuff and frost resistant gardening plant.

Family: Graminae/Poaceae

Species: Glauca

Common Names: Fescue, blue fescue.

Classification: Perennial.

Height: 30cm (12inches).

Flowering: Non flowering.


Where to plant info

Festuca seed can be mixed with general lawn seed to give a hard wearing lawn.

Where: Ideal for rock gardens.

They look splendid in patio tubs and pots.

Grow several of them at the front of borders for good ground cover.

Site: They prefer full sun, they thrive in it!

Soil: Extremely well draining soil kept on the dry side.

Festuca are drought tolerant when fully established.


Propagation info By seed in spring.

Best germination temperature: 70 deg F.

Time from sowing to germination: 5 - 20 days.
