Erythronium
How to Propagate
and Grow Successfully

Erythronium originate from Europe, North America and Asia and are a genus of perennial spring flowering tuberous gardening plants.

Leaves are elliptic or oblong, green and mottled with darker colours.

Flowers are star shape, re-curved and some droop, colours are white, yellow or lilac.

Family: Liliaceae

Species: Tuolumnense.

Common Names: Dogs tooth lily, dogs tooth violet, trout lily.

Classification: Tuber.

Height: 30cm (12inches).

Flowering: Throughout spring.


Where to plant info

Trout lily are adaptable gardening plants and will suit and do well in most locations in your garden.

Where: Grow them in spring flowering borders or beds.

Grow them in wildlife gardens.

They are a perfect woodland gardening plant.

Site: Dogs tooth lily prefer full sun.

They will also do well in partial shade.

Soil: Any rich, moist but free draining soil.


Propagation info By seed in autumn.

Best germination temperature: 70 deg F.

Time from sowing to germination: 6 - 15 weeks.

Can be slow to germinate.
