Echium
How to Propagate
and Grow Successfully


Echium originate from the Canary Islands and are a genus of perennial flowering gardening plants.

Leaves are a green/grey colour with silver hairs.

The leaves form in rosettes and are a narrow lance shape.

Flowers are red, pink, purple or white and are formed in dense funnel shaped cymes spires.

These gardening plants grow quite well in coastal areas.

Common Names: Vipers bugloss, bugloss.

Flowering: From spring through to end of summer.

Where: Ideal for mixed borders.

They is an excellent plant for attracting bees.

Site: They prefer full sun, they thrive in it!

Soil: Any rich and free draining soil.


Propagation info By seed in summer.

Best germination temperature: 40 deg F.

Time from sowing to germination: 3 - 9 months.

They can be very slow to germinate, so be patient.
