Digitalis
How to Propagate
and Grow Successfully


Digitalis originate from North Africa and Europe and are a genus of biennial and perennial gardening plants.

Leaves are oblong and dark green.

Flowers are funnel shape formed on long stems. Colours range from white, cream, pink, maroon, yellow, apricot all in various shades.

Foxglove are a tall majestic gardening plant which deserves a prominent place in anyone’s garden design.

Family: Scrophulariaceae

Species: Purpurea

Common Names: Foxglove, biennial foxglove.

Classification: Biennial.

Height: 60cm (24inches).

Flowering: Throughout summer.


Where to plant info

Foxglove have been one of the most loved gardening plants for the last few decades, and there is no reason why this should not be the case for the next few decades.

They are essential backdrop plants for mixed beds and borders where there tall spikes of handsome funnel flowers compliment and frame other plants.

Where: Ideal for borders and beds.

They are ideal for wild gardens or woodland areas.

These gardening plants are a great attractions to bees.

Site: They prefer partial shade.

Soil: Any rich, moist but free draining soil.


Propagation info:

By seed in spring to early summer.

Best germination temperature: 70 deg F.

Sow seeds on surface of compost. They need light to germinate so do not cover them with compost.

Time from sowing to germination: 7 to 14 days.
