Dictamnus
How to Propagate
and Grow Successfully

Dictamnus originate from Southern Europe and are a genus of perennial gardening plants.

Better known as the burning bush or gas plant it produces flammable oil in its flowers and unripe fruit.

On hot days the oil can ignite, but it does not appear to harm the plant.

Leaves are spiny and give off a lemon scent.

Flowers are borne on long loose racemes and are scented.

Species: Albus

Common Names: Burning bush, Dittany.

Classification: Perennial.

Height: 90cm (36inches).

Flowering: Throughout the summer.


Where to plant info

Dictamnus should be grown somewhere you can appreciate its pleasing lemon scent.

Where: Ideal for herbaceous borders.

Site: They prefer full sun, they thrive in it!

Soil: An alkaline soil that is free draining.


Propagation info By seed in autumn, fall.

Use fresh seed only and sow immediately after collecting.

Best germination temperature: 75 deg F.

Time from sowing to germination: 12 - 20 weeks.
