Crocosmia
How to Propagate
and Grow Successfully

Crocosmia originate from South Africa and are a genus of cormous perennial summer and autumn (fall) flowering gardening plants.

Leaves are mainly sword like, erect or arching and ribbed, light green to a bronze-green.

Flowers are borne on thin upright spikes.

Flower colours are bright and range from shades of red, orange, yellow and bi-colours.

This is an extremely hardy and easy to grow gardening plant.

Common Names: Montbretia.

Classification: Corm.

Height: 50cm (20inches).

Flowering: Summer through to autumn.


Where to plant info

Crocosmia are a popular and versatile gardening plant and can be used in most settings in your garden designs.

Where: Grow them in large groups in the middle or the back of mixed summer flowering borders or beds.

They are excellent as cut flowers.

Site: They prefer full sun, they thrive in it!

They do best sheltered from winds.

Soil: Any rich and free draining soil.


Propagation info By division in spring.

Corms should be lifted and divided at least every three years.
