Coreopsis
How to Propagate
and Grow Successfully


Coreopsis originate from Central and North America and Mexico and are a large genus of perennial flowering gardening plants.

Leaves are palmately lobed or lance shape.

Flowers are single or double with ragged edges and are borne in florets.

These gardening plants are well suited to hot dry conditions and will survive in dry spells where other plants will fail.

Species: Grandiflora

Common Names: Tickseed.

Classification: Perennial.

Height: 30cm to 60cm (36inches to 24inches).

Flowering: From early to late summer.


Where to plant info

Coreopsis are exceedingly tolerant of hot, dry conditions. So they are ideal if your garden is “sun-baked”.

Where: Ideal for front of borders and general bedding.

They are excellent cut flowers.

Site: Coreopsis prefer full sun, they thrive in it!

Soil: Any rich and free draining soil.


Propagation info By seed in spring.

Best germination temperature: 70 deg f.

Do not cover seeds with compost, they need light to germinate. Cover them with a little Vermiculite or similar to avoid loss of moisture.

Time from sowing to germination: 2 - 14 days.
