Christmas Cherry

Genus: Solanum

Family: Solanaceae

Species: Capsicastrum

Common Names: Christmas cherry, winter cherry.

Classification: Evergreen shrub (slow growing).

Height: 45cm (18inches).

Flowering: Flowers throughout summer. Berries appear in autumn through into winter.


Usage: Interesting and attractive indoor summer flowering plant with berries through autumn and winter..

Ideal as a Christmas gift for family, loved ones and friends or as a treat just for yourself.

Makes an excellent Christmas table decoration.


Site:
Requires full light, but shaded from direct sunlight.

In dormant period try to maintain a temperature around 50 deg F.

Mist frequently to improve humidity.


Soil:
Any good quality houseplant compost (peat based or non peat based).


Propagation Methods:

By seed in spring.

Best germination temperature: 70 deg F.
