Chionodoxa
How to Propagate
and Grow Successfully

Chionodoxa originate from Turkey and are a genus of perennial winter and spring flowering bulbous gardening plants.

The most common type is C. luculia and is a dwarf species growing to 15cm (6inches).

Flowers are dainty, attractive, blue and white or pink and white and are star shaped with six petals.

Leaves are mid green, sword like which wither back after flowers finish blooming.

They self seed profusely and will establish quickly in most locations if you leave the seedlings to grow on.

Where to plant info

These delightful gardening plants, although tiny, are a real nice treat to see in winter and spring flowering beds, especially when their attractive flowers pop their heads through a layer of crisp white snow.

Where: grow them in winter and spring flowering borders or beds.

Glory-of-the-snow are ideal for rock gardens.

Grow them in patio tubs and pots and window boxes for an exciting and welcoming winter and spring display.

Grow them under trees and shrubs, where the will normally naturalise.

They will spread season after season, without being invasive, giving a nice natural ground cover.

Site: They prefer full sun.

They also do well in partial shade.

Soil: Any moist but free draining soil.
