Aubretia originate from Europe and are a genus of mound forming perennial gardening plants with a trailing habit. Evergreen leaves are rounded, toothed and hairy. Lilac or purple flowers are star shaped with four petals, some flowers are doubles. They produce dense ground cover and are well suited for survival in coastal gardens.
