Aubrieta
How to Propagate
and Grow Successfully


Aubretia originate from Europe and are a genus of mound forming perennial gardening plants with a trailing habit.

Evergreen leaves are rounded, toothed and hairy.

Lilac or purple flowers are star shaped with four petals, some flowers are doubles.

They produce dense ground cover and are well suited for survival in coastal gardens.

Where to plant info

Aubrieta are one of the most popular gardening plants in today’s gardens and are used in many different settings.

Where: Ideal for ground cover in mixed beds and borders.

They are an excellent plant for growing in rock gardens.

Planted in old dry stone walls they make an excellent display. They will thrive in this type of environment once established.

Site: grow them in full sun, they thrive in it!

They also do well in partial shade.

Soil: Any free draining soil.


Propagation Methods: By soft wood cuttings in summer.

By semi-ripe cuttings at end of summer to beginning of autumn, fall.
