Aruncus
How to Propagate
and Grow Successfully


Aruncus originate from Central and Western Europe and North America.

They are a genus of rhizomatous summer flowering perennial gardening plants which are clump forming in their growth habit.

Leaves are fern like and lightly toothed.

Tiny flowers hang in spectacular plumed fronds.

These are a real spectacular showy plant with delicate foliage and arching plumed flowers.

Family: Rosaceae

Species: Dioicus

Common Names: Goat's beard.

Classification: Perennial.

Height: 2m (6 foot).

Flowering: From beginning of summer.


Where to plant info

This is one of those must have gardening plants and can be used almost anywhere in your garden.

But for a real dramatic effect grow them in large groups in borders and beds. This will create a real striking display.

Where: Ideal at the back of borders with other tall plants.

For a special show plant Aruncus on it's own as a specimen plant.

Very effective in patio tubs or pots, providing they are large enough.

Site: They prefer partial shade.

Soil: Any moderately fertile soil which is free draining and that retains moisture. Make sure the planting area has been deeply dug, Aruncus like to put their roots down a long way!


Propagation Methods: By seed in spring or autumn.

Best germination temperature: 68 deg F.

Time from sowing to germination: 3 - 8 weeks.
