Leaves are dark green and often finely spotted and broad arrow shaped. Flowers are a dark purple spathe with an extended long thin tip.

Arisarum are an unusual gardening plant which may not be very easy to find. You may have to contact plant nurseries rather than garden centers. Some online garden stores will have them available. They can be invasive once established, so you will need to keep them in check. Where: Grow them at the front of spring flowering borders or beds. They are ideal in rock gardens, but will need to be contained and controlled otherwise they will take over the whole rock garden. Grown in patio tubs and pots and window boxes they create an exciting spring display. Grow them under trees and shrubs. They are an excellent ground cover plant for shaded areas. You will have to keep them in check as they can be invasive. Site: They prefer partial shade. Soil: Any rich, moist but free draining soil.
