Alstroemeria
How to Propagate
and Grow Successfully

Alstroemeria originate from South America and are a genus of tuberous perennial flowering gardening plants.

There are around fifty species within the genus.

Leaves are lance shape, mid green and some are slightly twisted.

Flowers are some of the most attractive of all gardening plants, in yellow, orange, red or bi-colour, or multi-colour and spotted.

Height: 1m (36inches).

Flowering: Throughout summer.


Where to plant info

Alstroemeria have a long flowering period which makes them suitable for many locations in any garden.

Where: Ideal for borders and beds.

Site: They prefer full sun, they thrive in it!

Soil: Any rich, moisture retentive but free draining soil.

They do not like their roots disturbed, so once established it's best not to move them.

They will need protection from frost and a good mulch should be sufficient.

Propagation info By seed as soon as they have ripened.
