How To Propagate
And Grow Successfully


Alcea are a genus of biennials usually grown for their tall upright spikes of beautiful flowers.

Leaves are heart shaped with a rough texture and crenated lobes.

Species: Rosea


Common Names: Hollyhock.


Classification: Biennial.


Height: 2m (72inches).


Flowering: From summer through autumn.


Where to plant info

Hollyhock can be found in many "gardeners" gardens. They are a popular plant for mixed plantings as they blend in well with other plants.

They can also be planted in large groups for drasmatic effects.


Where: Ideal for the back of borders and beds.

These gardening plants are a must in any cottage garden planting.

Site: Grow them in full sun, they thrive in it!

Soil: Any rich, fertile and free draining soil.


Propagation Methods: By seed during autumn or winter to flower the following spring.

By seed in spring to flower the following year.


Best germinating temperature: 70 deg F.

Maintain a temperature of 55 to 60 deg F after seedlings emerge.
